Honoring the Life of Chris Herman - Chapter Co-Founder

Honoring Chris Herman

It is with a heavy heart that the Guild is announcing the loss of one of our founders – Chris Herman.  Chris, the wild river rafter, FEMA-Veteran, educatin’ solar guy, who gave so much to our community and to the greater community in which he was so active, will be remembered fondly by all the people he touched with his tender, gentle spirit.  He presented at the Solar Energy for Those Without Solar Access education session just last month for the Seattle Chapter, sharing his pioneering experience with creating the Edmonds Community Solar Cooperative. Chris has bravely faced pancreatic cancer over the past year with a great spirit and his signature defiance, allowing him to spend the last year of his life living his life his way – running rivers, educating the next generation of sustainable builders, and being a loving father and partner.  After a week of rapid and steady decline, Chris died peacefully and comfortably at home on Saturday, June 18th. He was a great man who was involved in many different communities. He loved nature more than almost anything else, from harnessing solar energy to running whitewater rivers.
He died too soon, but the causes he was passionate for, and people he was passionate about, live on. He will be deeply missed, but we can be comforted with our many wonderful memories of his time with us all.

If you would like to honor Chris’ memory with a gift, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to one of the following:
The Nature Conservancy (
Solar Cookers International ( or
Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County (…/hospice-home-care-of-sn…/)
